Starting February Just Decks LLC is Offering Free Residential Deck Inspections

(PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- Deck collapse kills over 30 people each year and many more are injured. Furthermore, it is estimated that many other incidents go unreported.

Last year there were several such cases in Dekalb and Gwinnett County alone. All were preventable deck collapses. There was a deck collapse at a Stone Mountain Residence last year, that brought a 4th of July barbecue to an instant halt. There were four people on the deck at the time of the incident. One young person suffered a broken back. The owner of the property lost a portion of his finger. Still they were fortunate that the red-hot grill did not land on them. Another incident involved a mother and 3 kids. Other incidents can be sited.

Most of the deck collapses that Just Decks LLC witnessed last year were due to improper construction. In almost all cases the insurance companies did not pay the cost of re-building the deck. Their position was that they do not cover improper construction. Of course, the only way the customers' found this out was when their deck collapsed.

It is easy to project that there will be a number of injuries from deck collapses in Dekalb County during 2007. This is a serious matter that will only worsen without more awareness.

Do not take chances. Decks often fall without warning (sudden deck collapse). It is highly recommended that you have your deck inspected once each year. Get your deck inspected by a company specializing in decks. Using a handy man or a general contractor for your deck construction has sometimes resulted in deadly consequences. Make sure that the company you hire is licensed, insured and has a good track record and references. Do not be lured by the sound of a very low price. Put safety first. Hire the best and follow the advice of the experts.
